The Trip in Detail

A closer look at your holiday

Day 1-4 Kapama River Lodge/Kapama Game Reserve

Begin your South African adventure with 3 nights at Kapama River Lodge, enjoying daily game drives, great food and luxurious surroundings in the bush. Kapama’s rates include 2 daily game drives. Kapama is a Big 5 reserve, so look out for lion, rhino, elephant, leopard and buffalo. Morning game drives start early, around 5:30am, but enjoy tea or coffee and rusks (a South African specialty) to warm up before setting off. In addition to the Big 5, there is plenty more wildlife to see, including a huge variety of bird species. Be sure to bring your camera and warm clothing. There’ll be another stop for snacks and warm drinks before returning to the lodge for a full breakfast.

Free time at River Lodge can be spend lounging on the pool deck or swimming in the rim flow pool, enjoying a treatment at the spa or relaxing in the lounge areas. At 3:30 each day afternoon tea is served before setting off on your 2nd game drive. The afternoon drive includes sundowners in the bush – a great way to finish off a day of relaxing and game viewing, while watching the sun set over the reserve. The vehicle will return to the lodge around 7pm, giving you a chance to spot some nocturnal animals before heading back for a great dinner.

Bush walks are also included in the rates, should you wish to have an even closer experience with Kapama’s wilderness and smaller wildlife. There are also elephant interactions available (for an extra cost) and the Hoedspruit Centre for Endangered Species is worth a visit (an extra fee also applies). Keen photographers can sign up for photographic safaris and there are hot air balloon rides available from nearby Hoedspruit.

In walking distance from the hotel are a variety of great bars and restaurants, with a huge range of cuisine styles.

One of the best ways to see the city is from the upper deck of the red city sightseeing buses. Begin your trip from the V&A Waterfront, and choose either the red route or blue route. Buses are hop-on hop-off, giving you plenty of time to explore locations including Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, World of Birds, Mariner’s Wharf, Constantia’s beautiful wine farms and more.
