So Sofitel Mauritius
Alex, Emilie and I spent 8 nights at So Sofitel Mauritius in March 2016 and I can truly say that this is the perfect Mauritian getaway if you are looking to do nothing but relax and unwind.
At first glance Alex and I were a bit worried that this was not going to be the best place to relax with a very busy 4 ½ year old as the hotel seemed a bit too cool and alternative, and maybe also a bit too upmarket and quiet. You notice that this is a real design hotel and we were informed that the hotel was in fact designed by Kenzo Takada. We soon realized that we had nothing to worry about as Sofitel So Mauritius is not only a great honeymoon destination but also an amazing place for families to have fun and unwind.
The rooms at So Sofitel Mauritius are all amazing, from the entry level rooms to the villas. The hotel “only has 92 rooms, which by Mauritian standards is fairly small. Each room is spacious and modern and feature some hitch gadgets and some funky colours.
The entry level Lushury Rooms are 60m2 and consist of a large bedroom area, a open plan bathroom and dressing room as well as a large courtyard with an outdoor shower. There is also a small outdoor bath in the front garden. The atmosphere is modern and minimalistic but also very romantic.
"Secluded barefoot luxury comes to mind when trying to describe this incredible hotel. So Sofitel Mauritius is the perfect honeymoon destination and an amazing spot to relax and unwind for a week or 10 days. It does not get more relaxing than this. "
So Sofitel Mauritius is located next to a large stretch of more or less deserted beach. The beach never feels crowded and there are plenty of sun loungers to go around and cold umbrella drinks. The sea is beautiful and warm and very child-friendly as the bay outside the hotel is protected by reefs. If you don’t want to swim in the sea there is also a huge heated swimming pool.
So Sofitel Mauritius has two amazing restaurants, La Plage is the beach side restaurant serving a great lunch and dinner. La Plage really epitomises the concept of barefoot luxury, great food and wine in a magical and very relaxed setting.
The main restaurant at So Sofitel Mauritius is Flamboyant, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is a buffet restaurant but it takes the concept of a buffet to a completely different level, so no need to worry that the food is not going to be good. One of the standouts at So Sofitel is actually the quality of the food.
The hotel also has an amazing spa for those wanting complete relaxation and pampering. For parents wanting a bit of help entertaining the kids there is also a great kiddies club with some super friendly ladies who keep the kids active all day long.
All in all So Sofitel Mauritius is one of the best 5 star resort experiences in Mauritius. The only thing that guests should be aware of is the fact the resort is very isolated and there is no town or village nearby for those wanting to do a bit of exploring on their own. For most guests this is an advantage as there are no people trying to sell souvenirs on the beach!
