Black Rhino is a traditional and tranquil thatched game lodge, resting at the base of Pilanesberg’s extinct volcano, in the Black Rhino Private Reserve. The beautiful lodge is located near an active waterhole, which sees great concentrations of bird life and regular elephant herds, visible from the pool deck.

The rhino for which the lodge is named make frequent appearances in the areas around the lodge, a fantastic privilege in a small private reserve. The park also hosts a good population of buffalo, and the rest of the famed Big 5. The reserve’s location outside of the malaria belt also make this lodge great for families.

“Black Rhino is the perfect safari destination for families, I can't think of a better place to spend some quality family time."

Safari at Black Rhino

14 comfortable suites (including double, twin and family) include private patios and air conditioning, and the lodge’s public areas, including the dining area, are designed to open onto the bush, allowing for plenty of opportunities to see game. Family suites are slightly separated from the rest of the lodge, and have their own pool. This makes the lodge perfectly outfitted to accommodate both families and couples or travelers who seek quieter accommodation.

Children of all ages are welcomed at Black Rhino.

The pool deck overlooks the lush veld and is the perfect spot to relax after game drives, as are the excellent bar and restaurant areas.

Hot air balloon safaris are offered, as well as elephant back safaris and interactions. Sun City is also nearby. Other specialised safaris include walking tours, photographic safaris and birding journeys. Safari at Black Rhino is especially exclusive, due to the ‘traversing agreement’ with Pilanesberg which allows Black Rhino vehicles to pass through a largely unexplored valley before reaching the park’s road network. This fantastic asset allows guests to see great concentrations of predators.
